Create and Heal
Pave your own way.
Hello, my name is Veronique Eason, and I am the founder and CEO of Create and Heal. I established Create and Heal to share the healing benefits of art-making and to encourage others to explore their creativity. As an Art Therapist, I have combined my passion for art and my commitment to creating safe spaces to inspire individuals to seek their true potential and foster personal growth and success.
My mission for Create and Heal is to provide safe spaces for individuals who may not always have access to such opportunities. I am committed to offering high-quality supplies and nurturing environments that encourage creative expression. I have a particular passion for supporting individuals who are often considered "at risk," as well as those who lack a safe space or resources for creating art. Everyone deserves the chance to have the space, time, and support needed to learn how to care for their overall well-being. My goal is to create that opportunity for everyone I can.
I hold a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health with a concentration in Art Therapy from Wayne State University, equipping me with a strong foundation to support diverse emotional and psychological needs. With a decade of experience at Microworks Employment and Training Services, Inc., I have excelled as an Administrative Assistant, Trainer, and Program Coordinator. My experience as an art teacher has allowed me to manage and inspire over 200 students, while my facilitation of Art Therapy groups caters to individuals across various age groups. I specialize in individual and group counseling, as well as support for children and adolescents, employing a person-centered and humanistic approach to foster growth and healing.
As an Art Therapist, I am steadfast in my commitment to creating safe and supportive spaces for individuals on their journeys of healing and self-discovery.
Discover Healing Through Creativity: The Transformative Power of Art Therapy
Art therapy is a fascinating form of psychotherapy that utilizes creative expression, particularly through visual arts like painting, drawing, sculpting and collage-making, to enhance mental and emotional well-being. The underlying principle is that engaging in artistic creation offers individuals a unique way to express feelings and thoughts that might be difficult to articulate with words. This makes it an excellent alternative outlet for self-exploration, healing, and communication.
One of the distinctive aspects of art therapy is its adaptability to a client's specific goals. Art therapists are specially trained to customize sessions to help clients build confidence, process trauma, and recognize emotions. Unlike traditional talk therapy, art therapy allows clients to engage in kinesthetic, sensory, and symbolic forms of expression, which complements verbal communication.
Often, the focus on the creative process is more important than the finished artwork itself. Art therapy serves as a powerful tool for clients to visualize and navigate their healing journeys as they confront and overcome painful issues. It is especially beneficial for those recovering from trauma or abuse, as the artwork created in sessions reflects the clients' realities and inner landscapes as well as an visual example of their personal growth. Art therapists guide clients to find and explore personal meaning in their work rather than imposing an analysis.
Additionally, art therapists employ art-based assessments that help understand a client's psychological and emotional state. These assessments can provide insights into attachment styles, stress susceptibility, and visual representations of mental health conditions. By combining these assessments with traditional therapeutic methods, clinicians gain a more comprehensive understanding of their clients and can tailor treatment strategies accordingly.
Overall, art therapy is considered a less intimidating approach that is effective for individuals of all ages, promoting healing across various facets of life in an engaging and creative manner.
Life has taught me that creating art is a therapeutic experience.
Create and Heal is a company I founded out of my lifelong passion for art and the creative process. From early childhood, art has provided me with solace, peace, and a comforting solitude that I could experience even in a crowd—a safe space within myself. Art has meant everything to me since I was a child. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunities I had at school, in after-school programs, and during summer sessions that allowed me to immerse myself in my artwork and explore my inner world. It wasn't until college that I realized the therapeutic nature of art. After taking a year off of school, I decided to change my major from early childhood education to art therapy, and this decision marked the beginning of a beautiful journey of self-discovery. I recognized that the knowledge I was gaining toward my art therapy degree could empower me to help others navigate their inner landscapes and, in some cases, rediscover their hidden strengths.
My practice is centered around creating safe spaces that encourage healing. I believe that everyone has the ability to overcome past fears, anxieties, and adversities encountered along their path. My own childhood experiences of having access to incredible art workshops and programs inspire me to use my gifts and talents to develop curricula and facilitate programs that give back to young people who have found a friend in art-making, just like I did. My aim is to support individuals in their journeys toward healing and personal growth. Art therapy is the primary healing modality I use in my practice, as it has a unique ability to transform lives in a gentle and non-threatening way.
Throughout my practice, I have used art therapy with a diverse range of individuals, and I am continually inspired by how art-making can quiet the mind and open the heart, allowing true healing to take place. In every session, I prioritize creating a safe environment that caters to the unique needs of each individual or group. I ensure that clients have access to all necessary tools, whether I transport supplies for in-school and after-school programs or ensure that clients have their materials ready for virtual sessions.
All of my sessions are tailored to individuals who have a passion for art-making or are artistically inclined (though this isn't a requirement), particularly those who may need additional access to supplies or safe spaces to create. Best wishes,

"For her culminating research project, Veronique conducted an autoethnographic study titled "A Black Woman’s Reclamation Story." One of the outcomes of this project is a set of self-exploration and self-care interventions designed for women. I believe others would find her approach to be meaningful."
